5G Will Light the Future of the Greater Bay Area

On November 26th, 5G and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Forum of 2020 World 5G Convention was held in Guangzhou.

Top scientists, government officials, entrepreneurs and technical experts in the field of 5G gathered together exchanged ideas on a series of topics related to 5G innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, building models for public service platforms and exploring the application of 5G in industries. This forum also served as a platform for guests to thoroughly discuss policies, planning, industrial development, application, and security about 5G in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Guangdong province had built 110,658 5G base stations by the end of this October, Shaolin Su, Director of Guangdong Communications Administration said at this forum.

Cao Jianlin, Deputy Director, Subcommittee of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports of National Committee of CPPCC, Former Vice Minister of Science and Technology emphasized that Guangdong should spare no efforts in facilitating relevant basic research to attract more talents to engage in basic research of communication technology here, so that related breakthroughs and discoveries can be applied in Guangdong first.

Afterwards, Jiangxing Wu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering attached great importance to the cyber security. He suggested that we should accelerate the application of endogenous safety theory in the field of mobile communication, and build reliable 5G network facilities with secure, controllable services.

Shaohua Yu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering noted that Digital Guangdong is the engine of Guangdong governance in the new era. Digital Guangdong and physical Guangdong are deeply integrated. 5G's basic, strategic and supportive role can't be separated from infrastructure, comprehensive services, technological innovation and industrial development. The innovation vitality, industrial system and broad market of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area also provide high-quality soil for 5G innovation.

The Forum also invited other guests from governments, leading enterprises and research institutions conducted in-depth discussion on the topics that the 5G technology application in different fields, 5G’s role in facilitating the development of the Greater Bay Area and its role in leading the future.

Apart from the speech section, the organizer of this forum held unveiling ceremony of Guangdong 5G Industry Application Industry Technology Innovation Alliance and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area 5G Application Innovation Center.

The combination of 5G and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is bound to lead to infinite possibilities. 5G is an important enabling technology that will boost the development of related industries in this area. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is one of China's most open regions with the strongest economic vitality, which enjoys obvious geographical advantages, strong economic strength with concentrated innovation factors and leading international level.
