On July 16, 21 Chinese scientists and a British academician working in China jointly published a paper on Science China Life Sciences.

In the paper On the Origin of SARS-CoV-2 -- The Blind Watchmaker Argument, abiding by the classic evolutionary theory "Blind Watchmaker", it strongly demonstrates SARS-CoV-2  can only come from nature, yet can't be made by man.

The paper’s first and corresponding author Wu Chung-I, professor of Sun Yat-sen University and academician of Taiwan's "Academia Sinica", said in an interview, “Chinese scientists have put forward a series of model and hypotheses on the origin of SARS-CoV-2, and would like to find the path to the truth together with scientists from international community based on the objective attitude. With joint efforts and exploring spirit, we are also looking forward to that moment.”

Wu also said:“We've suffered from three pandemics caused by coronavirus in the 21st century. So we'd better figure out where they're coming from. This is the shared fate of all humanity.”

It is in this paper that these scientists clearly point out: SARS-CoV-2could only come from nature, by no means could it evolves from live animals’ markets in megacities, let alone developed in the laboratory.

Wu explained that all kinds of creatures in nature are perfectly adapted to their living environment. Whereas, some scientists questioned how could SARS-CoV-2, being so perfectly adapted to human bodies, possibly come from "blind", aimless nature.

Supported by this hypothesis, they furthermore listed many pseudo propositions, such as "man-made theory", "conspiracy theory" and even the "laboratory leaking theory".

This was a terrible step backwards in scientific field and becoming a throwback to a clergyman lived more than two centuries ago:

In 1794, William Paley, an English clergyman, suggested that the complex and perfect adaptations shown by natural creatures were just like a delicate clock. You can't imagine that it came from nature, so there must be a watchmaker, designing and making it.

"What we want to say is that because SARS-CoV-2 is the most 'perfect' virus we have ever seen till now, it must be the product of natural evolution. Even the best human scientist doesn't really know what to develop when he/she wants to 'make' a virus that fits so perfectly to the crowds."

When mentioned why are so many prominent scientists using their professional backgrounds to be in favor of this idea, Wu said "We are presenting a very basic scientific opinion that almost all scholars in the field of evolution would agree on: it is through the nature, the blind clockmaker, who creates the 'perfect' creature, rather than some practiced 'creators'."

He added: " Nowadays, some people have taken the opportunity to attack some research institutions, viewing these laboratories as' God ', frankly speaking, it’s quite absurd. In order to call for a return to rationality and science in the global society, we issued this paper. We wish that the scientific exploration to the origin of SARS-CoV-2 is the very first step."
