First Homegrown PC Operating System with AI Launched

Chinese company Kylinsoft launched the first AIPC version of its Kylin operating system on August 8. This is China's first domestically developed personal computer operating system integrated with AI. It fills a gap in the development of edge-side inference capabilities within China's operating system industry.

New Star with More Europium than Sun Found

Based on resolution spectroscopic data from the Guo Shoujing Telescope or LAMOST, Chinese researchers have discovered a star in the Milky Way with the highest measured abundance ratio of europium, a silvery white metal. It contains six times more europium than the sun.

Earth's Rotational Deceleration Evolution Pattern Reconstructed

Chinese researchers reconstructed the evolution of Earth's rotational deceleration during the Paleozoic Era. A staircase pattern in deceleration from 650 to 280 million years ago was identified and attributed to the occurrence of tidal dissipation resonance. The findings have been published in the journal PNAS.

Seafloor Rock Holds Key to Earth's Crust

A research team aboard the International Ocean Discovery Program ocean drilling vessel recently drilled a nearly uninterrupted 1,268-meter-long rock sample going from the Earth's mantle region to the seabed in the mid-Atlantic. This is the deepest rock sample from the ocean floor to date, providing unprecedented information that may enhance our understanding of the processes involved in the formation of the Earth's crust.

High-performance Superconducting Wire Developed

A research team led by the University at Buffalo in the U.S. has developed the world's highest performing high temperature superconducting wire segment. It can transfer power without resistance at temperatures higher than required by traditional superconductors. This opens up new possibilities for harnessing magnetism and could transform the existing energy infrastructure, and even enable commercial nuclear fusion.
