Light & Textile Industry Gets an AI Upgrade Plan
The 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) for development of the light industry and textile industry, released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and two other government departments, sets the goal of raising the level of intelligent, green and integrated development of the sector, with operating revenue of enterprises above designated size exceeding 30 trillion RMB by 2030.
As a traditionally competitive sector and a vital industry for people's livelihoods in the national economy, the light industry and textile sector has 11 indicative targets to meet by 2030. These include establishing approximately 550 industrial clusters, ensuring an R&D investment intensity of over three percent for key enterprises, and achieving a digital production equipment penetration rate of more than 63 percent across the industry.
The plan lays out 14 key tasks centered on maintaining the industry's advantage and improving development quality and efficiency.
Specific measures include:
◆Strengthening original innovation and tackling key core technologies.
◆Formulating or revising more than 30 mandatory national standards and completing the formulation and revision of about 600 industry standards in urgent demand.
◆Promoting AI empowerment and accelerating green and low-carbon transformation.
◆Advancing cross-disciplinary application of textile science and technology in medical health,marine engineering and other fields,and developing a"textile+"application promotion catalog;
◆Building a high-level international supply chain system, and encouraging enterprises to set up independent websites or join mainstream international e-commerce platforms.
The plan specifies efforts to break through technical bottlenecks in high-performance fiber process control and medical polymer fiber materials, develop pet sanitary facilities and pet toys, and advance AI-based skin analysis and beauty-effect rendering technologies.
It also proposes leveraging the national industry-finance cooperation platform and supporting leading light and textile enterprises to form industry-education integration communities.
