Resilient Chinese Economy Brings Opportunities to the World
Recently, more than 20 former political leaders and experts from various countries engaged in a strategic dialogue in Beijing on topics including China's high-quality development and global economic growth, improving global economic governance and supply chain stability, and leveraging AI to drive industrial innovation, contributing their insights to the global economic recovery and sustainable development.
Mulatu Teshome, former president of Ethiopia, said against the backdrop of a global economy seeking stable anchors, China's high-quality development is a stabilizer and a powerful engine for global economic growth. The Chinese economy has demonstrated resilience, with advanced manufacturing and modern services continuously upgrading, creating abundant cooperation opportunities for global partners. China's development holds significant importance for many countries in the Global South.
Jenny Shipley, former prime minister of New Zealand, said China is always willing to build new types of partnerships. These innovative collaborations are based on a willingness to open up and practical actions, as opposed to protectionism and closed attitudes, and have brought prosperity to all parties involved. China has a strong ability to focus on strategies and continuously conducts R&D and innovation. The economic vitality, sustained investment and development momentum are worthy of the joint attention of both Eastern and Western economies.
Shipley said China's contributions in other fields are already evident. For instance, China's electric vehicles and photovoltaic technologies are being promoted throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Initially, they were regarded as innovative products. Today, they are seen as symbols of excellent quality.
Recent analyses by John Ross, British economist and former director of economic and business policy for the mayor of London, attribute the resilience of China's economy to its high level of investment and industrial development. China's R&D expenditure accounts for approximately 2.5 percent of its GDP, ranking first among all developing countries.
China's economy continues to grow and the claim that the Chinese market has stagnated or even regressed is completely unfounded. Despite some media programs and government officials spreading false information about China, multinational enterprises, which have witnessed the technological breakthroughs made in China, remain eager to invest.
Regarding the current development of AI and cooperation, Ross stated that China is vigorously promoting open and transparent, easily adjustable and adaptable open-source models. For countries in the Global South, China's models mean they can deploy and use AI technologies at a lower cost.
Richard Caplan, a professor of international relations at Oxford University, praised China's Global Development Initiative, which focuses on the common development aspirations of humanity and addresses the real challenges in the field of global development. He also lauded the Belt and Road Initiative with its cooperation principle of consultation, cooperation and sharing.
Caplan said China's demonstrated commitment to development at both the regional and global levels is highly commendable. Beijing has provided valuable experience for the world based on its own development, and some of these experiences are worthy of being learned from by other countries.
