FCC's Drone Ban Meets Overwhelming Opposition
On July 21, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) proposed a ban on the import and sale of foreign-produced"military-grade" drones, citing national security risks, and launched an online public commentperiod closing on September 2.
Under the FCC's definition, nearly all DJI drones would fall under this ban. This move forcibly slaps a "military" label on civilian drones, marking a further escalation in Washington's crackdown on Chinese drone manufacturers.
Restricting the import of Chinese drones will come at a heavy cost to the U.S. economy and public safety.
According to U.S. drone news website DroneXL, the FCC received 3,824 readable comments. Of these, 98.6percent voiced opposition, while only 16 comments were in support, mostly came from domestic U.S. drone manufacturers.
