Air Cambodia and Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) signed an agreement on July 17 for the purchase of 20 C909 aircraft. This landmark agreement makes Air Cambodia the first foreign flag carrier to place a bulk order for COMAC's C909 aircraft.

Ahead of the signing ceremony, Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet met COMAC's vice chairman and president Shen Bo, and David Zhan, vice chairman and CEO of Air Cambodia.

The prime minister congratulated COMAC on the successful operation of the C909 in Cambodia and commended the partnership with Air Cambodia. He expressed strong support for the strategic plans and initiatives jointly formulated by COMAC, the SSCA, and Air Cambodia to cultivate local talent, elevate the modernization of Cambodia's civil aviation sector, and enhance its regional and global competitiveness.

He emphasized that Cambodia's ministries and state agencies will provide comprehensive support for the operation of the C909 aircraft.

This signing is a milestone in both China-Cambodia civil aviation cooperation and Air Cambodia's corporate history, ushering its fleet development into a new phase. As the C909s enter service, Air Cambodia will optimize its route network and enhance its operational capabilities. This will strengthen the national flag carrier's competitiveness and play a vital role in building a modernized air transport system for Cambodia.

The first batch of C909 aircraft is scheduled to be delivered in the second half of 2026, with operations commencing soon after that.

In a concurrent development, the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation of Cambodia (SSCA) and COMAC signed a memorandum of understanding to ensure successful operation of the C909 fleet and deepen bilateral cooperation in civil aviation infrastructure, operational support, talent development, and maintenance training.
