Thailand is positioning itself as a Southeast Asian hub for AI, technology, and the digital economy. Driven by joint public and private investments in digital infrastructure, it is integrating AI across key sectors—including industry, healthcare, tourism, and services—to boost its global competitiveness.

A major catalyst for this momentum is Microsoft’s landmark investment of over one billion USD. The global tech giant is expanding its Cloud and AI Data Center infrastructure in Thailand while supporting local talent development in AI and cybersecurity to foster long-term digital growth.

On the policy front, the Thai government’s AI Governance framework and the "AI Data Center Generation 2026" plan are seeking to promote responsible AI development. Efforts are also underway to build robust infrastructure for research, big data processing, and "ThaiLLM"—a localized large language model designed to enhance Thai-language AI capabilities across all sectors.

In manufacturing, Thailand continues to consolidate its reputation as a global production and export hub for AI hardware and smart electronics, strengthening its position in the global supply chain and attracting ongoing international investment. Leading telecom operator AIS is spearheading smart city initiatives by deploying 5G Advanced, Wi-Fi 7, Cloud, and AI services in the Muang Thong Thani area as a model for urban development.

In the healthcare and sustainability sectors, the National Science and Technology Development Agency is developing Medical AI to assist with clinical decision-making and diagnostic precision. Concurrently, the National Innovation Agency has launched the "Climate X 2026" initiative to accelerate the growth of climate tech startups, supporting Thailand's long-term sustainability goals.

Internationally, Thailand has elevated its tech partnership with China, focusing on joint AI research, knowledge sharing, and investment in next-generation digital industries.

Leveraging AI for medical & wellness tourism

Thailand is embedding AI into its high-value sectors—most notably medical and wellness tourism. A key highlight is ArokaGO, an AI-powered health travel platform connecting international patients and wellness travelers with verified hospitals, clinics, and wellness providers across the country.

Supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation for tech development, and in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, ArokaGO plays a pivotal role in positioning the country as a world-class health destination.

The platform currently links hundreds of accredited providers—spanning hospitals, dental and aesthetic clinics, anti-aging centers, wellness hotels, and holistic health services. By leveraging AI, it offers personalized provider matching and facilitates direct communication between patients and care providers.

By synthesizing global tech investments, robust digital infrastructure, a thriving innovation ecosystem, and targeted AI applications in healthcare and tourism, Thailand’s aim is to lead ASEAN as a premier hub for AI, digital health, and medical & wellness tourism.
