China Mobile HK's BeiDou Message Platform for Emergency Rescue
Leveraging the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System and pioneering satellite-terrestrial convergence technology, China Mobile Hong Kong Co. Ltd. recently integrated the BeiDou Satellite Message Service into the HKSOS Emergency Rescue App, enhancing the emergency rescue capabilities of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
The service enables seamless switching between terrestrial 5G networks and the BeiDou Satellite network.

This innovation supported the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) to carry out a successful technology concept verification at an altitude of 5,700 meters on the Chulu West Peak in Nepal, where no mobile network coverage was available.
This was done by establishing a full communication link between the BeiDou message platform and the HKPF's HKSOS emergency rescue platform, connecting satellite communications directly to the ground rescue command center.
This breakthrough delivers critical technical capabilities to enhance HKSAR's emergency rescue infrastructure in the future, representing another pivotal step forward in the city's pursuit of technology-driven outdoor safety solutions.
The HKSOS Emergency Rescue App, launched in 2024, has successfully assisted more than 280 individuals in 120 rescue cases and shortened the time taken for search and rescue missions that previously lasted over four hours.
Currently, all missions using the app are completed within three hours, marking a new era in the region's emergency rescue operations.
