Chinese Telecom Removal Costs the EU Dearly
Recently, the CEOs of 17 European telecom operators jointly issued an open letter, saying that the requirements in the draft amendment to the EU Cybersecurity Act (CSA) to forcibly remove high-risk equipment could drain the funds the telecom industry needs for 5G and 6G construction, and recommending that the act be revised.
The latest draft amendment to the CSA requires operators to complete the removal and replacement of critical components from high-risk suppliers within 36 months.
Although no company is named, the provision is widely regarded as targeting Chinese telecom equipment manufacturers such as Huawei.
According to relevant research, the forced removal of Chinese telecom equipment would cause serious consequences for EU telecom networks, including increased economic burdens, network operation failures, and damage to supply chain diversity.
