"Together we can, together we will, together we must save the world." That was the message conveyed by Dr. Jane Goodall, renowned primatologist and UN Messenger of Peace, during an event in Beijing on November 30 celebrating the three-decade presence of Roots and Shoots in China.

Founded by Dr. Jane Goodall in 1991, Roots and Shoots is a youth-led global community action program aimed to inspire each individual to take action to make the world a better place for animals, people, and the environment.

Since its establishment in China in 1994, the program has inspired young people across China to engage in environmental protection through various projects and activities. Now with more than 1,000 student groups nationwide, it has emerged as an important force in promoting ecological sustainability.

"When nature suffers, we suffer; when nature flourishes, we all flourish." In her speech, Dr. Jane Goodall shared her experiences studying chimpanzees in the African rainforest, illustrating how young people's proactive involvement can lead to significant change. Her compelling words resonated with the youth in the audience.

Michael Crook, honorary chairman of Roots and Shoots in Beijing and a Chinese Government Friendship Award winner, said with years of efforts, Roots and Shoots participants have demonstrated that everyone counts, and everyone can make a difference in protecting our planet.

The event also screened a documentary, Jane Goodall: Reasons for Hope, showcasing successful conservation stories from her travels around the globe and inspiring attendees to take collective action for environmental improvement.
